Travelling is one of the best ways to expand your horizons and become a better person. It allows you not only to learn about the way the world works, but also lets you improve yourself. Through travelling, you can challenge your beliefs, work on your weaknesses and to put into action the hidden strengths you never knew you had! ๐Ÿ™‚

Imagine yourself in a place where you have never been before. Take in the sites and the sounds. Your mind starts analyzing all that is happening around you and your brain goes into overdrive. You have never been here before, yet what stands before you is wonderfully familiar.

You start navigating your way through the streets, looking at the people, admiring the architecture and tasting the local food. Your brain gets filled with new stimuli and your sense of adventure keeps on increasing.

A person who stays in one place all their life will never be able to experience something like this. They will be stuck in their own boring routine, never stimulating themselves to their utmost potential. As a world traveler, you will get to see things that will blow your mind and realize how wonderful the world is, how different, yet similar things really are.

You will realize that we are all people, we have some differences, but there are some fundamental things that make us humans all the same.

Yes, by going to new, unknown places, you will face dangers. You can never forget about the fact that there are potentially bad things waiting for you out there as well. However you can only make progress as a person, if you accept these challenges and face them head on.

Of course your strategy should be to minimize any potential risks that you might encounter. Don’t act stupid, be respectful and always be alert.

Don’t let the potential risks and dangers scare you away from something that can be life a changing journey or even a new path in life. These things will be something that you will remember for the rest of your life. They will define you and you will share these experiences with your grandkids. A life unlived is something much scarier than a life where you go into potential unknowns and overcome obstacles.

Travelling will let you see new places, discover how people live and explore different cultures. You can always see the photos in a book or the internet, but nothing beats actually being in a place yourself.

Imagine yourself looking at the Victoria Falls from the little town of Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, enjoying dinner in Paris, climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, or trekking through the jungle. Picture yourself partying in Thailand, riding the Trans-Siberian Express, or being on a ship bound for Antarctica. All these experiences will change you and many times they will define you. You will come from them a changed person, a better person.

Not only will they let you see the outside world, but they will also let you see inside yourself. They will push you to the limits. You will have to negotiate your way in foreign languages, learn new skills and sometimes look deep inside you to find the deepest reserve of strength that you have in order to go for the last push and carry on in your journey.

So go on… start learning that foreign language, book that flight, start that trek. You won’t regret your decision.

Update: I wrote this post in mid-2014 and as some examples I listed picturing yourself doing things like climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro or partying in Thailand. Well, I pictured those things too and in summer 2015 I did them. ๐Ÿ™‚
