I have always been a contrarian thinker too, since child. I had never liked the idea of following what is "popular", "cool", "in" and "trendy". I had my ideas of my own. But, it isolated me. I became a loner as everyone did not care to accept me of my difference. I appeared geeky and outcasted. t did not frown it however. I still followed my own ideals and my own fashioned. I still followed what I think is right. In my early years, I enjoyed being different because it made feel me unique, but when I grow up, I realized that it is not uniqueness that makes my contrarianism good, it is reason. I see how people do not recognize thinking about something, that they always follow what is in "present fashion" and accept it as a mere reality that no one must react. They "enslaved" themselves to what is "in trend", and it violates the essence of freedom.

Yes, splitting life into 2 does help. I know for me it has given me a great advantage over others who do not know about this. When I was growing up I did not have the internet and to get information i would have had to go to the Library near me. So I had to learn to change my view by watching a lot Public Television where they used to have very good programs like Front Line, Nova etc.
It did help that my Dad would bring home books for us to read. Since he had a 6th grade education he knew the importance of knowledge and how it can help a person succeed. Me and my brothers all got out of the inner city and made something of ourselves. None of us were thugs, drug dealers etc. we just stayed away and made our own paths.

I could have gone that route like so many of the kids I grew up with but for what? There is no future at the end of that path except death and prison. Neither is something I like to do so I stayed away, stayed in school and made the best of my situation while in the NYC public school system.

I learned to survive and made the right choices and so far it has led me here to you and other like minded people. I just wish that more people would realize that life is not hard to live but simple its just that we make it hard,

Again Peter a fantastic post! Keep up the good work as your articles are extremely thought provoking!

Thanks Jose!

"ou see we are not much different from one another as Humans but we are different in the choices we make in our lives. Make bad choices you end up not living to your full potential. Make the right choices and you might live your life to a full potential."

This is exactly it. Many people like to blame others for their misfortunes. I like the the basic Stoic principle of dividing things into two parts, the ones you can change and affect and the ones you cannot. So in life you should be worrying about the things that you can change, and not worry about the rest. :)

Fantastic post Peter!
I have to admit that you are so correct on my levels! Being a contrarian is something that too few people these days want to be.

I know for me I tend to look for connections to things as well as problems. For example this whole race thing that seems to be infiltrating every crevice of this society has made people on both sides of the fence to become emotional. Each person tries to explain themselves to the other only to fight themselves in a word brawl.

Personally I believe the issue of race is something to keep social groups from working with one another. Being a person who lives in both black side as well as the white side I tend to see it differently. You see we are not much different from one another as Humans but we are different in the choices we make in our lives. Make bad choices you end up not living to your full potential. Make the right choices and you might live your life to a full potential. We have control somewhat of our lives. But when I try to explain this I get met with ridicule and sarcasm!

They just do not want to see it for what it is? Life is simple and not hard. The path is there for everyone to follow! If I did it then so can anyone else. It amazes me who the herd would rather be unhappy and blame others for their plight in life when they can change it if they want to.

I have seen life differently for a very long time. I have found like Insaid before that life has already given you a raid to follow and each persons road is different than the next person but they all lead to the same place. We just have to make the changes needed in order to get to where you want to go I life. In this world everything is connected to everything else.

I guess I ranted on long enough so let men

Although I don't have one, but I do see how selfie sticks do have their uses. Sometimes it's hard to take a picture from one spot, but with a selfie stick you can get a better shot. :) However a lot of people use them for vanity purposes.

Thanks for responding! :)

Great article and interesting ideas.

I did not know that the selfie-stick became one of the "greatest inventions of 2014." I just read your article about it and had a few laughs. Another good one.

On another note, I actually possess a selfie-stick. But I don't use it for selfies. I use it for video documentation. And it's actually useful.

And here's something you may find funny: When I went to the Epcot Centre (the stronghold of consumerism) my selfie-stick was...CONFISCATED!

The reason? Too many kids had been using them "irresponsibly" in carousels and rides, and dropped them on other people's heads. This had resulted in lawsuits against Epcot Center (I think). The U.S is a strange country in many ways.
